1705年因七世达赖废立之争西藏局势混乱，为此清朝中央政府于1713年册封五世班禅为“班臣额尔德尼”，并颁此金印，借其声望和影响力制衡和稳定西藏局势。从此，“班禅额尔德尼”的称号开始历代沿用。该金印印文为汉满藏三种文字。

       1705ལོར་ཏཱ་ལ་སྐུ་ཕྲེང་བདུན་པ་ངོས་འཛིན་བྱེད་མིན་གྱི་འཐབ་རྩོད་ལས་བོད་ཀྱི་གནས་བབ་ཟང་ཟིང་དུ་གྱུར་པའི་རྐྱེན་གྱིས། ཆིང་རྒྱལ་རབས་ཀྲུང་དབྱང་སྲིད་གཞུང་གིས་1713ལོར་པཎ་ཆེན་སྐུ་ཕྲེང་ལྔ་པར“པཎ་ཆེན་ཨེར་ཏེ་ནི་”ཞེས་པའི་མཚན་གསོལ་བ་་དང་འབྲེལ་གསེར་ཐམ་ཡང་གནང་སྟེ། ཁོང་གི་སྙན་གྲགས་དང་ཤུགས་རྐྱེན་ལ་བརྟེན་ནས་བོད་ཀྱི་དུས་བབ་བརྟན་ལྷིང་ཡོང་རེ་བྱས། དེ་ནས་བཟུང་། “པཎ་ཆེན་ཨེར་ཏེ་ནི”ཞེས་པའི་མཚན་སྙན་པཎ་ཆེན་སྐུ་ཕྲེང་རིམ་བྱོན་ལ་སྤྱོད་འགོ་ཚུགས། གསེར་ཐམ་དེར་རྒྱ་ཡིག་དང་། མན་ཇུ། བོད་ཡིག་བཅས་གསུམ་གྱི་ཡིག་རིགས་བརྐོས་ཡོད།

        In 1705, because of the dispute over the abolition of the seventh Dalai Lama, the situation in Tibet was chaotic. For this reason, the central government of the Qing Dynasty conferred the fifth Panchen Lama as "Panchen Erdeni" and issued the seal in 1713 to balance and stabilize the situation in Tibet with its reputation and influence. From then on, the title of “Panchen Erdeni” has been used in successive generations. The impression of the seal is in Chinese, Manchu and Tibetan scripts.
